#11 By January, no one will remember what you did this fall

I get it, we're heading into the year-end stretch, and most people are just trying to close projects and keep the wheels on.

It’s exactly when your smaller wins get buried and forgotten - the process you fixed, the campaign you tweaked, the pilot you rescued. Come January, no one remembers that thing you did.

This week’s check-in: capture those wins now by building an Impact Bank you can carry into reviews, interviews, or wherever you need proof on demand.

The problem:

“I drive outcomes” is invisible unless you can point to them—fast.

Why it matters (especially now):

Q4 isn’t just the sprint to finish strong. It’s also when performance reviews, comp conversations, and career planning for next year are on the horizon. If you can’t surface your impact quickly, it gets missed.

The tool: The Impact Bank

A living doc with 10–15 short, outcome-first bullets you can pull from anytime.

Format (each bullet):

  • Impact first: “Cut weekly status meeting from 60 → 30 mins…”

  • Then how: “…by redesigning the template and pre-reads.”

What to consider:

Don’t just log the obvious headline wins. Capture the things you’ll forget by January, like:

  • You know that process you fixed, and now the team who hated working with you actually loves partnering with you? That belongs here.

  • Or the campaign you quietly tweaked that lifted open rates +8 pts.

  • Or the onboarding guide that shaved a week off ramp time.

  • Or the pilot you rescued from going dark by reframing success metrics.

Those “smaller” stories are gold in reviews and interviews—because they show impact in motion.

How to build it (30–45 mins)

Start with reflection before you draft:

  • What am I most proud of this quarter?

  • Where did I move the needle the most?

  • What feedback have I gotten that confirms my impact?

  • What do I still want to get done before year-end?

Then:

  1. Review your calendar, notes, or last quarter’s deliverables to jog your memory.

  2. Draft 10 bullets in the format above (impact → how).

  3. Tag by theme (growth, ops, product, leadership).

  4. Star 3 that map best to your next move.

Optional — draft with ChatGPT:

“Help me build a 10 bullet Impact Bank from these notes. Each bullet should lead with the outcome, then briefly explain how. Business casual, one line per bullet.”

Where to use it:

  • Resume bullets

  • LinkedIn About proof lines

  • Outreach follow-ups

  • Interview answers

  • Year-end reviews

Think of it as a savings account of proof. Each small win you log is a deposit. By year’s end, you’ve got compound interest you can spend—on your next role, your review, or that unexpected opportunity that lands in your inbox.

Send me your fav win, so I can cheer you on from the sidelines.

And if you’re also thinking about bigger moves, now’s the right time to start laying the groundwork. The next Ready to Land cohort kicks off October 9 - you can check out details and book a call to see if it’s a fit.
